In less than a week we'll be moving to Medford, Oregon. This is a coming home for me. I grew up in The Dalles, Oregon but left the state in 1974. It's time to come home, as my sister keeps pointing out.
I have a love-hate relationship with moving.
I love the adventure and excitement of a new home to settle into, decorate and enjoy. New neighborhoods to explore. Even new grocery store chains with their different brands. Oh, and the best part, new people to meet, and sometimes to be closer to old friends and family.
But I hate the work of it. There's the overwhelm of all the details, utilties to disconnect here and set up on the other end. Phone numbers to change or forward. Mail to forward, checks, credit cards, banking, drivers licesnses, car registrations all to be changed. You even have to get different health, car and renter's insurance.
Then there's the letting-go. Unless you have basically the same size and set up in your new place, not everything's going to fit. Do you store it, sell it, get rid of it? Unless you have unlimited money for movers, there's also the issue of whether it's worth it to move it. And again sell, toss, donate?
It's shocking how much it costs to move cross country, over $10k. Needless to say, we're making hard choices...selling the leather couch that we don't like, the designer bar stools that are seriously uncomfortable and a lot of other large and small items. Some things I just don't want to have to unpack it and find a place for something I don't love or use often.
What am I most excited about? I can't decide if it's
- The separate 3 room office suite, with it's own driveway, space for classes, display and workroom
- We'll be an hour and a half from my favorite place on the planet - Mt. Shasta.
- Being close to friends and family for the first time in decades.
- Being someplace without the horrendous the traffic congestion of DC.
- Or being in an environment that is more laid back, nature centered and for me more grounding by far.
I do know that I've been following my intuition through this process and that some things have happened almost magically. I contacted One rental agent through a friend, the day I emailed her she'd just gotten the listing for what looks like the perfed home and office for us. The leather sofa and barstools sold within a day.
Thanks to all of you, my efforts to sell a lot of jewelry to help fund this move without going into debt has been hugely successful. AND I have had the pleasure of sending a lot of beautiful, energetic jewelry to be loved and worn.
On my next post I'll talk about what jewelry I've chosen to wear or make for myself to support my energy through all this.
Note: unfortunately you can't comment on my blog...after I get moved I'll work on setting up a new one outside of my jewelry site..but for now if you want to comment, please come over to Facebook
